In the Field is an immersive, visceral work built around contrasts of density and space. Deep crimson, burnt sienna and earthy rose surge around the edges of the canvas like fire or foliage — wild, textured and alive — while a luminous, pale grey space opens at the heart of the composition, offering stillness within the chaos.

Small figures and marks emerge from the lower passages, bringing something human and narrative to the layers while allowing the work to remain abstract. There is a sense of being immersed — surrounded by something shifting, elemental and alive.

In the Field is a richely, textured work that rewards close looking, revealing fragments and details withing its layers.

Joanna Lovatt

With more than 20 years working in fashion and specialising in pattern making, Joanna brings a love of line, form and texture to her intuitive painting practice. Her work explores the space between structure and spontaneity.

Each piece is created by Joanna using archival materials and an intuitive, layered approach to painting. Working with oil, acrylic and charcoal on canvas, she builds texture through expressive marks, layering, scraping and reworking.

The result is a collection of original works with depth, character and subtle variations that reflect the handmade nature of each piece.

Each artwork is an original piece created and signed by Joanna Lovatt and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Enquire About Framing

For delivery within New Zealand, artworks are carefully packaged and shipped unframed on their stretcher bars, ready to hang or frame.

For international delivery, artworks are carefully removed from their stretcher bars, rolled and securely packaged in a protective tube for safe transport. The artwork can then be re-stretched and framed locally on arrival.

Shipping costs vary depending on the size of the artwork and destination. Please get in touch for a shipping quote or to discuss delivery options before purchasing.
