Leather and Lace is a study in contrast and intimacy. Rich earth tones — deep burgundy, warm terracotta, dusty rose and slate — fold and ripple across the canvas like layers of worn leather, while delicate lines trace through the surface like fine lacework, fragile and precise against the weight of the paint beneath.

The composition moves inward through a landscape of texture and tension, where softness and strength coexist. There is something both ancient and tender here — geological and human at once.

Leather and Lace is a richly layered work that rewards close looking, revealing new detail the longer you spend with it.

With more than 20 years working in fashion and specialising in pattern making, Joanna brings a love of line, form and texture to her intuitive painting practice. Her work explores the space between structure and spontaneity.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Each piece is created by Joanna using archival materials and an intuitive, layered approach to painting. Working with oil, acrylic and charcoal on canvas, she builds texture through expressive marks, layering, scraping and reworking.

The result is a collection of original works with depth, character and subtle variations that reflect the handmade nature of each piece.

Each artwork is an original piece created and signed by Joanna Lovatt and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Shipping & Delivery

For delivery within New Zealand, artworks are carefully packaged and shipped unframed on their stretcher bars, ready to hang or frame.

For international delivery, artworks are carefully removed from their stretcher bars, rolled and securely packaged in a protective tube for safe transport. The artwork can then be re-stretched and framed locally on arrival.
